Halo Collar Subscription Cost: Plans and Monthly Fees

The Halo Collar subscription costs $9.99 to $19.99 per month on top of the hardware purchase. This membership is required to use Halo’s GPS fences and tracking, so we account for both the purchase price and ongoing fees.
For owners considering recurring fence costs, our GPS dog fence at PawTronic requires no monthly fence subscription. It provides boundary containment rather than live lost-dog tracking.
Below, we break down the Halo dog collar subscription cost by membership tier, then work through the total ownership cost over one and three years.
How Much Is the Halo Collar Subscription?
The Halo Collar subscription costs $9.99 per month for Bronze, $14.99 for Silver, or $19.99 for Gold. We count it separately from the hardware purchase, and these rates cover membership for one collar.
Halo’s membership documentation covers annual and two-year billing. The table below shows the monthly rate for each tier. Annual and two-year billing reduce the total compared with monthly payments and require payment upfront.
Plan |
Monthly payment |
|---|---|
Bronze |
$9.99 |
Silver |
$14.99 |
Gold |
$19.99 |
Bronze totals $119.88 over 12 monthly payments. Paying annually lowers that total, though it requires paying for the year upfront.
Each additional collar adds a membership charge of $3.99 per month on Bronze or $4.99 on Silver or Gold. A two-dog household therefore pays $13.98 per month on Bronze, $19.98 on Silver, or $24.98 on Gold, plus the cost of both collars. One account can manage multiple dogs, but each additional collar still carries a membership charge.
What Does Each Halo Membership Include?
All three Halo memberships include GPS fencing, location tracking, unlimited cellular data, and basic training content. We compare them on saved-fence limits, activity reporting, setup support, and training access:

The higher fees pay for additional saved fences and extras such as activity reports, setup support, and live training. Weigh those against the features you expect to use.
The fence allowance counts saved boundaries, not dogs. Gold’s unlimited fences do not remove the membership charge for additional collars.
Does Halo Collar Work Without a Subscription?
No, the Halo Collar does not work without a subscription. It requires an active subscription to create, edit, and use GPS fences and access tracking. We separate offline fence operation from subscription-free use; the two are not the same.
Saved fences can operate without Wi-Fi or cellular reception, but that does not mean they work without a paid membership. Buying the hardware alone does not cover ongoing fence use, even when boundaries are stored on the collar.
Halo Collar Price and Total Ownership Cost
For one Halo Collar 5, we calculate the first-year ownership cost at $718.88 to $838.88 with monthly membership billing. Over three years, the total ranges from $958.64 to $1,318.64. These calculations include one collar at its $599 regular price plus Bronze, Silver, or Gold membership.
Membership |
Hardware price |
First-year total |
Three-year total |
|---|---|---|---|
Bronze |
$599 |
$718.88 |
$958.64 |
Silver |
$599 |
$778.88 |
$1,138.64 |
Gold |
$599 |
$838.88 |
$1,318.64 |
For each first-year total, we add 12 monthly payments to the hardware price. For each three-year total, we add 36 payments. We assume unchanged membership rates and exclude taxes, shipping, accessories, optional Halo Care, and replacement collars.
Annual and two-year billing are discounted but require payment upfront.
Additional Costs for Extra Collars, Halo Care, and Accessories
Additional costs include extra collars, optional Halo Care, and accessories. Adding another dog requires both a hardware purchase and an additional membership charge. Halo Care and accessories are optional.
Here are the charges we account for:
- Extra collars: Each additional dog requires a separate collar purchase and adds $3.99 per month to membership on Bronze, or $4.99 on Silver and Gold. Managing several dogs through one account does not remove these charges
- Halo Care: This optional replacement program adds $9.99 per month per covered collar. Replacement collars still require a separate payment, subject to the membership’s pricing and eligibility terms
- Accessories: The optional charging stand costs $59.99 and the Zone Beacon costs $49.99 before membership discounts. Silver includes 25% off accessories, while Gold includes 50% off. The Halo Collar 5 box already includes a charging cable, so we treat the stand as an optional purchase rather than the supplied charger
Cancellation, Renewals and Refunds
Canceling stops future renewals but does not automatically refund the remaining paid term. Halo memberships renew automatically for the selected billing period unless canceled. Cancellation normally takes effect at the end of the paid term. It does not automatically refund unused months on an annual or two-year plan.
Here is how we break down the terms:
- Cancellation: Submit the request through your Halo account. Your membership stays active until the billing cycle ends, after which Halo deactivates the collar. Halo’s terms generally exclude cancellation refunds unless a stated exception or applicable law provides otherwise
- Renewals and restarting: Monthly, annual, and two-year plans renew for the same selected term at the applicable rate. After cancellation, the original account holder has a short grace period of about 14 days to reactivate and relink collars. After that, reactivation costs a $50 fee plus applicable taxes
- Pausing and changing billing: Monthly plans can be paused for one to nine months. Collars cannot be used during the pause, and billing resumes automatically afterward. Annual and two-year plans cannot be paused. Switching to a longer billing term starts a new paid period immediately, with credit for the unused portion of the previous term. Switching to a shorter term takes effect when the existing paid period ends
- Refunds with returns: Request eligible direct-purchase returns within 90 days after you receive the collar. Approved hardware refunds deduct a $25 return and handling fee, plus tax. For membership refunds, select cancellation in the return request and return all qualifying collars. Membership fees are refunded in full when the collar is returned within 90 days under the qualifying return terms
Consider the Ongoing Cost Before You Choose

When we compare ownership costs, we include membership renewals, additional collars, and optional coverage. Halo’s purchase price is only part of the commitment, particularly when budgeting over several years.

Frequently Asked Questions About Halo Collar Subscription Cost
Does Halo Collar Require a Subscription?
Yes, Halo Collar requires an active membership to create, edit, and use GPS fences and access tracking. We account for this separately from the hardware purchase. Saved fences can operate without Wi-Fi or cellular reception, but offline operation is different from subscription-free use. Owners still need an active plan for the collar.
How Much Does the Halo Collar Subscription Cost Per Year?
Paid monthly, Halo Collar membership totals $119.88 for Bronze, $179.88 for Silver, or $239.88 for Gold over a year. Annual billing costs less than twelve monthly payments and is paid upfront. You buy the hardware separately.
Can You Cancel the Halo Collar Subscription Anytime?
Yes, you can request cancellation through your Halo account at any time. The cancellation takes effect later, though. Your membership normally stays active until the paid term ends, and then the collar is deactivated. Canceling an annual or two-year plan does not automatically refund unused months, and refund eligibility depends on Halo’s return and cancellation terms.
Does One Halo Subscription Cover Multiple Dogs?
Yes, one Halo membership account can include multiple dogs. We calculate costs per collar because each dog needs separate hardware and an additional membership charge. Each extra collar costs $3.99 per month on Bronze and $4.99 on Silver or Gold. Two-dog monthly totals are $13.98, $19.98, or $24.98, respectively, excluding hardware and optional coverage.
Is Halo Care Included in the Subscription?
No, Halo Care is an optional add-on costing $9.99 per month for each covered collar. We separate it from Halo Protection, the replacement program included with membership. Halo Care reduces replacement prices but does not make replacements free. Check the applicable replacement charge and eligibility in your membership terms before enrolling.
